I calls it the Chickenhawk horn

You can see why.  My first effort at relief carving an eagle....
well it doesn't quite look eagleish.

Have to agree that most of the original horns Eagles are less than perfect....

Thanks to all.  I used Cherry for the plug.  It's easy to shape and turns fairly well.

That's a right fine looking horn.  I keep telling myself I need to make some more, but I've been going full bore on blacksmithing.

Many of the early Eagles had heads that were almost serpentine and other differences from reality, so yours is more authentic than you may think.  Heck in many 17th and 18th engravings and pommels on swords: alligators looked like dragons, lions look like dogs,  bears look like boars, etc., etc.   

Keep at it and I have no doubt your work will come to please you well.
