Back in Jan. James Rogers posted pictures of a netted game bag

On that thread I posted that I have always admired netted game bags and have wanted to make one for myself but did not know how to make the netting. James Rogers was nice enough to PM me and remind me that Beth Gilgun had written an how-to article in the Muzzle Loader Mag.  I did a check of back issues and found it  in the sept./oct 1994 issue.

After following the directions and looking at all the pictures I could pull off the Internet , I got started on my net.

Impressive. How difficult was it and about how long did it take? When you discovered you made a mistake, was it possible to go back and fix it or was it simply not worth it? Last question..what material is the netting made from?

#@!! $#@*!  What do you mean "Don't look too close!"  I think you did a beautiful job on the netting Joe.  Can't wait to see the finished bag.  I'm also interested in the material.  Thanks for posting.

Anyone else remember the fad that macramé was in the 60's and 70's? It's an old form of fabric making that uses "hitching" or knotting and is a part of marlinspike work practiced by sailors. "Undoing" is simply a matter of untying your work and watching all that work evaporate. There's a bunch of books available on marlinspike and hitching work. It's actually pretty simple stuff after a little practice produces
understanding.

As Kermit said its not that hard to do and I did have to undo a section that I messed up .
once I learned to use my grid it went smooth.

The material is  waxed flax twine called -Colonial No. 12 Flax Twine- I found it on the Internet. That is what Beth recommended .

The back issue is available from Muzzleloader Mag. Easy to understand.
I looked elsewhere for instructions and had no luck. The ladies at the craft shop were too young to remember Macram'e but they had heard of it,and had no idea where to find a book on it . We're getting old Kermit!

The  piece is 15" x 13"  and the whole thing is  constructed using a square knot.

I worked on this a few hours at a time so I 'm not sure of the total time ,  
There are 30 knots across each row , 3 rows of knots to the 1/2 inch
 it took me around 30 minutes to do a row once I got the tying  down.

I made this using 1/2 inch squares and it would go faster if I had used 1 inch

Having made this one I'm in no hurry to do another

The info is probably out there, but you have to get your search term right. Chances are that current practitioners of macramé bag making are not likely to post on the web as "net hunting bag panel."

Interesting stuff and what a wonderful opportunity for a tutorial  (Hint)!  I have an original bag (European) that has a net game bag as a part of the total bag assembly. Love the thing.

Sorry for the confusion. Wrong use of the word "Original" .My bag is a Dixie Gun Works import (nice) from the 1960's. European for sure. I can post a picture if you still want to see it.

Heck  man  i  am  amazed  when  i  sew  a button  to  my  knee  britches.....the  sewing  not  the  challege its  the  buttons  stayying  on!! Yeah  i  know  the  hard  core  1750  guys  say  dont  used  susspenders  to  keep  up  yore  britches. I  had  enough  sand  and  dirt  from  the  big  Desert  Land in  my  pants  so  i  use  suspenders.  But  i  Digress  Sir!!  Fellars  lets  give  this  amn  #  Huzzahsss!!

Here is the bag with some of my other plunder. I carry my hawk in a brass ring threaded onto the bag strap. The knife has a  damascus blade and bolsters and I made it myself.  Bought the damascus as a bar.
