We have a traditional muzzleloader shoot at Brocks Gap Training Center in Birmingham. Targets are steel silhouettes at 50 meters and 100 meters. This match has recently been revived after having been discontinued for several years. We shoot the third Sunday of each month March through September. It is expected that this match will grow as shooters learn about it. Should have 8-10 shooters next month.

We had our second match this past Sunday. Had 6 shooters. We all had fun smacking down the steel targets. Shooters were my friend and neighbor Bob, his son Chris who is a school teacher and also participates in Civil War reenactments. A fellow member Don who is the match director for a black powder cartridge match held monthly at the range shot his old muzzleloader too. We had two young people Nathan and his friend Ashley. Both of them shot very well. Nathan won the match with his flintlock. Ashley placed second and beat all the old timers who thought we were good shooters.

Bob and I are the match directors and we plan on adding some different targets to the silhouettes to make the shoot even more fun. Maybe some paper targets. We also are considering adding charcoal briquettes hung from string at 50 yards. Maybe a swinging target hung from a string where the object is to cut the string so the hanging object falls to the ground.

Shoot starts at 1:00 PM. Visitors are welcome to come join us for a fun shoot. Target set up starts around 12:00 PM. Range safety briefing at 12:45.

Follow the link below for details and contact information. If you would like to participate in the shoot we would love to have you. From the web site you can contact me via email. Send your name and email address and I will add you to the mailing list for announcements and updates.

I spent the night in Gadsden one time. We were taking the scenic route back from Louisiana and decided to stop for the night. We got into town around 10 pm. We checked into a little motel and went to a KFC for some vittles. They were closed by then and were mopping the floor. As we walked back toward the car, a lady opened the door and yelled, "Come on in, Honey!" We were shocked. They fed us a hot meal and were so friendly. Everyone in that town was super nice and friendly. I vaguely remember a trestle type bridge and a river, right?
