Building my first American Longrifle
« on: June 19, 2014, 08:54:18 PM »
Hi Folks!
In 2001 Steve Bookout build a East Tennessee Mountain hog rifle for my friend Øyvind Flatnes. I have alvays admired this rifle, and finaly asked Bookie if he give me permission to build one. He send me paper stock patteren and say go ahead! And Øyvind loan me the rifle for close studying :)
The stock blank curly maple is from Dunlap, and I will use the last barrel I rifled on my Wooden Iowa Rifling Bench http://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=30643.0
You can read more about the rifle Bookie build for Øyvind on his website www.svartkrutt.net

While you are buying books pick up a copy of "Recreating The American Longrifle" one of the best books on rifle building.

Agreed.  Based on this piece http://americanlongrifles.org/forum/index.php?topic=14003.75  I have a feeling he'll do well again.

All of those books mentioned are good ones and worth having but I think you (Runastav) could write a good book on the subject too. As always, looking forward to seeing your build. Thanks for letting us  follow along.

This will be an interesting project to follow. Although Death Wind is a bit front heavy due to the straight barrel, it is an accurate rifle with which I have had a lot of fun over the years. It has even got me some medals   ;)

Here is the direct link to the write-up about Bookout's original build  (in English): http://www.svartkrutt.net/articles/vis.php?id=1

Now let's see what Runar can do!

Yes "Long Ears" I am familiar with his work.  I have closely followed everything that he has done since he built the under hammer rifle.  Although having a few good books on hand can give you another perspective on something and ideas of new things to do.  It seems that several of us were thinking along the same lines.

I just went through the swivel breech pistol thread. Some how I missed that first time around. Wow! I agree, Runar needs no book, but should be writing one.

Looking good Runar!!! As allways, I'm impressed with the speed you work. You are going to be finished with your rifle way ahead with mine.

Best regards
