Hi Folks!
Steve, hehe ;) Whetrock thank you!
Bookie use staket on lugs on the Deathwind thick walled barrel. I use thin 1mm steel shims to make mine in dowetail slot, my swamped barrel is much slimmer

Runar,
you do great work
why do you leave the tab on the RR pipe so long?
seems if you cut it shorter, wouldnt have to remove as much wood,
just need enough for the pin to go through,
just asking thats all... ;D
only flintlocks remain interesting..

Hi Folks!
elk killer, I do not know just make the ramrodpipes like Bookies so we must ask him :)
Start making the buttcap, use papertape to make patterens of the deathwind cap.

Elk killer,
I make all my pipes with long tabs.  Once they are inlet and pinned I cut/file them flush with the bottom of the barrel channel.  Having metal to metal top edge of the pipe tab to the bottom flat of the barrel ensures that the pipes will never rock.

Easier to remove more wood than shorten the tab, IMO. And Dave's point is well taken.

The reasons the tabs on my thimbles are so long: 1.)  I use my Great Uncle's original patterns from the early 20th century.  2.)  It's a lot easier to inlet a little more wood than trying to cut the steel down in my opinion.  3.)  I'm on my final two rifles, #'s 399 & 400, and it's too late now to change! ;D   Runar, we need to get together to burn some coal and pound iron!  I'll mail you one  of my side plates if you wish....

Sorry, Mac.  The book is out of print right now.  Sales tapered off after about 6000 copies, so I let'er slide.  Cheers, Bookie

Wow, I'm really enjoying this thread. Makes my recent build from a pre-carve seem petty. Keep up the good work!

Bookie I have no actual experience in the publishing trade, but maybe now is the time for converting the publication to electronic media where there is no inventory (the bane of small-time printing), only sales.  Just throwin' that out there.

I have bought a few "digital books" over the years myself.   ;)

Also, very nice work this thread!
