OK,  It's finally done.

Cherry NE Fowler, 10ga 46in barrel.

Please excuse the quality of the photos.

Had a little oops yesterday, broke out the lock moulding yesterday, repaired, but it's till there.

You can see the breakout on the last photo.

Dane - I Like It.  I love those NE Fowlers.  My next official project is gonna be one.

Looks like you made your own butt plate.  Good to see your engraving - I haven't gotten up the nerve to actually touch a graver to anything on a gun.

Here's a couple of targets.

#1 is first 2 rounds @ 25 yards (750 ball, 100g FFg)

#2 is 25yds #6 shot

#3 is 50yds #6 shot.

I can't wait to find some #4's

I like the huge beavertail around the barrel tang. Nothing bashfull there. Great job.

Lew,

Yes is it a Chamber's NE Fowler.

It is an absolutely gorgeous piece of cherry.

I used an orange under coat of stain, then added several coats of LMF American walnut to darken the curl.

As far as finish... multiple coats of Chambers Traditional Oil Finish, then after the antiquing process, a few coats of just about everything I had in the cabinet...... Permalyn, Teak Oil, Tung Oil.

I had a heck of a time backing off the shine.  Threw the whole bin of tricks at it, and it still just stayed pretty glossy.

I'm beginning to like it more,..... maybe just because it shoots so well??

I was amazed at how well this thing shoots..... but it likes heavy, hot loads.

(the barrel is jug choked, Thanks Longknife).  Because of liking hot loads, it's not a plinker..... but I'd dare say.... it will definitely take some game.

dane,looks like you used flat black for the antiquing and who did your jug choke.i have never built a chambers kit,do the barrels come choked ????i might have to sell off something to buy me one of his kits....

His name is Ed Hamberg, somewhere in Ohio.

And NO the barrels don't come choked.

This wood is a nice upgrade from Barbie and Jim.

The antiquing idea or using flat black paint, is something I must give credit to Mr Brooks for.  I've stolen, um, used a lot of ideas from Mr Brooks.

I hope he doesn't hate me.  Maybe someday, I can build some as nice as his.

I think that is one fine looking NE gun. Beautiful finish. Hope mine turns out as well. I put the top buttplate screw through the heel..on an angle. I trust that is OK for a N.E. fowler.
Very nice shooting too, Smallpatch. That gun is a keeper.

Dane, great job on another NE fowler. I'm glad to hear that it likes hot loads. That wood has beautiful mottling. I was thinking that the big English lock needs some engraving, but the patina works nicely with the paint/aging. My fowler is almost there. Just have to match the side plate moldings. That's been a pain since one side is a little higher than the other. Thanks for the tip on the incised carving.

I love the color...  The lock panels came out very nice and I also like the fish engraving on the side plate, neat touch.  Great job and thanks for posting the pics!

OK, I've been caught again.... :o the fish on the side plate was copied after something I saw on a Mike Brooks gun as well, oh yeah, and the flat black spray paint, oh yeah, and the beaver tail, etc, etc,etc. ::)

I don't do anything well enough for any one else to copy.  So really, you'd be copying Mike's.

That load was 130g FFg, about 1 3/4 of #6 shot.

HOT LOAD.  Put ALL of that shot into about an 18" circle @ 25yards.

Can you say..... Dead Bird??  That jug choke really works with the heavier loads.

I'll get that right out this weekend..... do you prefer UPS or Fed Ex??

I did want to say thanks on the jug choking... I'm amazed at the patterns for a first trip out, and how well it's handles round ball.

This is not your weekend plinker however.... it does like hot loads, and it does manhandle you a little.  But, for what it's designed for..... AWESOME.

 Will you explain Jug choke for me, is it somewhere in the full, mod, imp, imp cylinder, cylinder area? I have never had or shot a smooth bore but after seeing the pattern there may be one down the line.
