Guides for a inlet job....
« on: August 10, 2014, 01:42:22 AM »

Tomtom and I have been sidetracked with things until today...after visiting Davy Crockett days at the park(not many vendors) i was able to jig up and use 2 flatbar stock to set guide rails for a little Bosche pony router:

The bars were drilled and countersunk holes for wood screw flush fit. Washers were placed under each station that held a screw, this was a straight barrel, but if you have a swamped, alter the height by adding or subtracting washers under the screws. then it's very important to adjust the router bit for height and side to side movement...then lock it in the chuck, and route away the wood.
The RR grove was also done, then the short spaces at the ends where you cannot take the router, can be cleaned up with rasps and a chisel.....takes a while to jig up, but NO elbow grease was used in the process....and the walls fit the barrel perfectly......
class over.....go back to napping tomtom says....

Routers make too much noise. I put up with enuf noise from the kids, work, the wife and the danged airplanes using my airspace as an approach route for the airport.  ;D I like quiet wood working.

I'll be doing guides next time too for sure,

but i'm with Clark on the noise factor, (esp routers and buzzy planes).

and hey don't get in the way of that cat, he obviously has things to lay on and places to sleep!

 ;D
I did the burton barrel into the cherry stock along with the RR channel, and drilled.....all in 4hrs. And the big difference was my hands aren't hurting because of chisels and planes.... ;D

I'm not big on noise either, but it's so hot, and I wanted to get a jump on these two KY "Barrens" rifles.
Tomtom lays around when it's hot like this, but it nice to have company in the shop, even if it's dang lazy kat ;)
