Screw top container.

Built this today while working on several other projects. Kind of a quickie project. the bottom was fit to the horn and pinned then put in the lathe and turned to final shape. The top was done as a separate piece. The wood is Pine except the screw-plug which is Maple. Stain is aqua fortis.

 Nice work Steve, a couple questions; what did you use to cut the threads with and is the top cross grain or end?

Tim   I use a tap and die set that I got from Harbor Freight many years ago (1/2 inch) and the wood is cross grain. That makes the strongest threads. I really wish I had gotten some of the other sizes of these tap and  die sets when I could have.  I'm sure there are still some available at times and certainly from other sources. They make a good, reliable, fairly air tight closure.

Had a discussion on the Bench and I thought I'd share this finished picture here as well. I smooth everything with a Scotchbright pad after everything is cool and dry and wipe a layer of shellac over everything to kind of shine it up.
