Wire gauge drill bits
« on: September 20, 2014, 09:19:28 PM »
I am in the market for some wire gauge drill bits . Who do you guys buy from and what is the best type? Do I need to buy a full set? Do I need to buy the aircraft kind (extra length)?

                     Thanks in advance,

I get mine from the local Ace hardware store. A set is nice and can be cheaper than getting them individually if you need a lot.

I bought a cheap set and replace the ones I break with good ones bought individually at the local industrial supply. I usually get extras in the smaller sizes I use the most. A good drill bit sharpening machine is sure handy also. I used to grind them free hand but the machine is a lot faster and more precise. The "Drill Doctor" I have works fine but won't sharpen the very smallest sizes. I have to do them free hand with my magnifier on.

I have found that there are only a hand full that I need in gun building. And I buy them in quantity. No need to buy a set. Like other tools. Buy just what you need, and your workbench will evolve.
