Livrustkammaren museum firearms online
« on: September 30, 2014, 03:10:49 PM »
The Livrustkammaren museum in Sweeden contains some of the best 17th century firearms in existence.  Many of these are shown in "The Flintlock" by Lenk and  "The Art of the Gunmaker" by Hayward among others.  Images of these guns are available online at the following addresses:

A great way to burn up a lot of time sitting at the computer ;).

Jim, Does this museum have links to powder horns, flasks and pouches and pouch tools?

Not only is this a great resource in helping understand the roots of the American longrifle, all these items can certainly be appreciated on their own merit.  In my view, 17th century firearms are about as good as they get.  The baroque forms and design are often spectacular.  I know some just focus on American work and completely turn off when it comes to European stuff, but it doesn't hurt to widen ones view a bit.  Sometimes the results are surprising.

Excellent resource Jim, thanks!  I agree whole heartedly, love baroque design and it can translate very well with early American pieces.  Really appreciate you posting this!
