Julia Auction results?
« on: October 10, 2014, 12:02:27 AM »
Anybody have them?
Rightful liberty is unobstructed action according to our will within limits drawn around us by the equal rights of others. I do not add 'within the limits of the law' because law is often but the tyrant's will, and always so when it violates the rights of the individual.

I heard the Missouri squirrel rifle brought $5000 and the Christian Hawken brought 12,000.  Not official

Several of the long rifles were selling in the 20-25K range, which was under the low estimates of 30K to the high estimates of 40-50K.
A Schreyer rifle, described as being the rifle on page 78-79 of Shumway's "George Schreyer Sr. & Jr." book sold for $29.5K.

It must be nice to be able to afford items like this, do you think they will be taken hunting or to the range?

Why would you even think of shooting a 150 to 200 year old rifle? Let alone drag it through the woods.

Don:  I think ( and hope) he's being factitious.

Mr. Collward,
The Shroyer was estimated at 25-30K, $29,500.00 is hitting the mark. $12,000.00 for 10" of a original C. Hawken is pretty good also, give them $3000.00 for the front end and $9,000.00 for the 12" of original and it averages at about $750.00 per inch x 56" gives you $42,000.00 if it was all original (which is considerably inflated). I heard from a reliable source close to the estimator that these rifles had a considerable amount of restoration also, in review of the last 2 auctions and the less than desirable reputation of the collection, the little bit of info that you have produced is more positive than negative!

Will these guns be shot and enjoyed?Probably as often as a major 1930's classic car will be driven on a race track. We have a friend in Northern Indiana that has a superb Duesenberg and he told me that he no longer drives it to the ACD get together in Auburn because it costs about $4000 to insure it for current market value.
In the case of OLD guns, copy it if possible and shoot the new one because every shot thru the old one will be one shot closer to the scrap pile.

Another strange auction, the lower end rifles sold near or at their prices but the higher end guns either went slightly lower or not at all.
