Nice buck
« on: November 18, 2014, 06:12:00 AM »
Hey guys I wanted to share a nice ten point buck I shot with my rifle I built from a slab.  Lotta love for this gun and a lotta love for these fine animals.  Shot him face on through the chest and round ball was laying just underneath the hide where hip started.  Zero meat loss and perfect use of energy from the load. .54 80 grains 3f rice c weight chambers silver deluxe.  Thanks for looking and good luck to all my fellow hunters.

Really nice buck - a true 4 point whitetail, plus nice long eye guards. Good genetics there.

Good one fer shure, I saw his brothercousin "out walkin'" with 5 does on my way home from work yesterday...which sent me scurrying to the woods for that last hour of daylight yesterday.

Very nice Carolina buck, congrats! Like that rifle, too. Oh...and Daryl... it's a ten point whitetail with nice browtines, a real symmetrical 5x5. If it were a mule deer I'd agree it would be a four point with nice eye guards!  ;) ;D

Thanks guys.  We dusted his chops with black pepper and flash fried with some onions. Salt to finish, let it rest five minutes and Bon appetit!  It really was good eating, looking forward to start working on that hide too.  Thanks hanshi, happy hunting .

I think I would have trouble with the resting 5 minutes.
Heck, Half of it would not even make it from a frying pan to a plate!

Venison harvested with a flintlock is as good as it gets.

Sounds like the hunt of a life time.
A fantastic buck with a great rifle.

Daryls, I think they get a point count for brow tines on a whitey. Brows on a muley don't get scored as a tine but the added inches are tossed in with the total(or the penalty).  That is a nice looking whitetail,Micah. Good gene pool!

No total counts here on whitetails.  The game branch counts the brow tines - ie: 3 points main beam + tine  = a 4 point trophy deer in the eyes of the game branch here, not the genetically inferior buck like it is.

In WV, we would call him a 10 point, but whatever you call him, congratulations on a great buck and the fact that you stick built the rifle, makes it even better.  I am in the process of scratch building a .54 Early VA style rifle and can't wait to get it finished and ini the woods after some type of game.  Way to go and as someone in another post said, "Keep after them!"
