I certainly am not in the same class with many of you who build the wonderful carved and engraved guns, but I have been building for quite a few years, and enjoy the craft very much. This is the first Tennessee rifle I have built since the old Dixie Gun Works precarves in 1967. We built them back then because they were cheap and available. This one has a grade 6 red maple stock from Dunlap's, Rice Southern Classic .40 barrel, Chamber's Late Ketland lock, and plain old TOW iron furniture. The front sight is home made since no one makes one with a blade thick enough for me to see. Mark, at Jack's Mountain Gunstocks did the barrel inletting and ramrod hole. I am giving my rifles to the grandchildren as I have been blessed with eight, so far.

Oh yes. She shoots quite well.

All the iron was finished with Pilkington Classic American Rust Blue. Thanks for all the kind words. Another is in the works, but with a lollipop tang and walnut stock.

Very nice! Love the way the lines flow, especially the way you flowed the wrist rearward into butt. Finish is very appealing.

Frog,
I just love this rifle and I am wondering about more of the details. I am not familiar with Jack's Mtn. Gunstocks. Where are they located and do they have a big wait time? I would like to think I could inlet a swamped barrel, but am somewhat intimidated by them. I also like the way the steel parts are finished. Did you do anything special with the cold blue, or just go by the manufacturer's directions? Thanks for posting.
