Metric threaded nipple/ grease fitting
« on: November 30, 2014, 04:48:08 PM »
Just a weird question. Many times, I have recommended as a last resort, on US made factory made guns to use a 1/4-28 grease fitting in the nipple or flash hole to force a ball, stuck jag, whatever out with a grease gun. Knowing that hunting season is here and the usual follies of problems are coming. Are there grease fittings available that have comparable metric threads to fit Traditions or CVA guns. I'm not a auto mechanic so I never fooled around with metric stuff on foreign autos. I realize this is a gunsmith/ repair question rather than a builders question. I know that many of us get repairs occasionally too. BJH

I guess I should stop being lazy and do my research, in short yes they are available in the thread sizes that are commonly used. Guess I need to go over to the local auto parts store or MSC. BJH

This is nice as it presents a safe way to clear barrel obstructions, providing nobody drilled a hole through the bullet with a ball puller etc.

I saw metric grease fittings at Harbor Freight today and there were some 6mm in the package.

You'll need a metric fitting on your grease gun, to fit the metric grease fitting. Then you'll need a metric pipe or tube to screw the metric fitting onto, then,,,,, Well, forget all that, you're going to need a metric grease gun.
