Tenn styles in the fashion of Roger Sells

I found the rifle Roger Sells made for the CLA live auction to be most appealing.  Maybe the most desirable rifle I have ever encountered.  Mr. Sells said about it, "It is nothing fancy but it is so graceful."  I would like to have one in the style of Mr. Sells works.  Since the CLA show I have found several similar pictured on the Contemp. blog.  It seems that every one I see is special.

I have contacted a builder that is open to making one for me but it would be very much outside the character of guns he normally builds.  While he seems confident in his ability to build one (and I am by no means questioning his judgment) there are a few things I would like to have nailed down before the project is started.  Let me briefly list them and see if anyone can help.

1.  What would the length of the "drop" be?
2.  What would the measurements of the wrist be?
3.  How would you characterize the nature of the metal finish?
4.  The rifle would be stocked in maple but I want a very dark finish.  How should it be finished?
5.  Height of the butt?

Finally, the Bull rifle had what appears to be a typical "banana style" patch box.  HOWEVER on another one of Mr. Sells rifles I saw an elongated patch box which had two "doors", one larger one at the back opening forward, and a smaller one in front, opening rearward.  Does anyone know a supplier of that style patch box?

Once again these may be easy to address for the builder but this is for my info for now.

My partner has had some discussion with Mr. Sells.  Unfortunately he no longer is an "active builder" but does do some limited building...maybe one a year....maybe a few a year but with a "list" of maybe 12 to 13 people who have interest in one of his works.  Consequently the answer ultimately is the time it would take to move to the "next" on the list.  For the record, we are on "the list", and will remain on the list for one of his rifles.  You know how it is, we'll wait for the real thing but maybe get something as a substitute until the real thing comes our way.

Molly, look up Mark Tornichio. He forges a lot of the furniture a lot of top pro makers and his rifles are very graceful.

I'm not knocking anyone's pre made patchboxes specifically, but a lot of top makers roll their own.

I have looked a little for Mark Tornichio but not found how to contact him yet.  He also had a rifle on the auction.  Our builder feels he can make just about any patch box I would want but if a quality one would be commercially available it may save time and $$ and seein' as how this is just going to serve until a Roger Sells original comes along, that would probably be OK.

Mr. W.P.:  We have the web site for the supplier you noted but have not found that specific patch box on line.  I suppose they have a more extensive selection if we were to actually purchase their catalogue...maybe I'll phone them and see or just go on and purchase the catalogue.

We know the barrel length is 44 inches.  Through a process of scaling a line representing the drop and then measuring it against the barrel length we come up with a drop of about 4.2 inches.  Looks like it would be more but that's the way it works out.  Any speculation on that?

Molly, the rifle you want built would be expensive. I called my brother and and read him your post. He is a master gunsmith and said a rifle, like this with no flies on it would take 8 to 12 months to build, no bought parts used, except a refurbished wrought iron barrel and a lock. If he made the lock, that would add to the price.

4.2 is quite a bit of drop, I know it wouldn't fit me.

nevermind the dimensions on the brass version, they corrected them on the steel one very recently-and i'm thinking they should be the same.
