40cal rifle progress...........
« on: December 24, 2014, 03:00:36 PM »
Burton Barrel straight on a cherry blank......late Ketland lock with rounded butt for fire control....from that beautiful Barbie, and the wood is from mom's place...the rifle is a Ky "barrens' type with my flavor added.....
I use a method of rails, screwed to the blank, then rout out the channel with a small trim router. All measurements are triple checked, three types of bits are used, square,45 angle, and for the RR a round tipped bit.

one
two
three

fat butt..the wood has been removed since pic was shot....I use a sanding flapper disc on a Dewalt cut-off grinder...then steps with, rasps and files....
squared up......digging out the lock plate
always with great company.......

Looking good. I have a C. Bean style rifle in progress myself. Just something about a good SMR that makes you smile. Have blessed Christmas.

Looks pretty good. I like those flapper wheels but best used outside with the wind to you back!
Nice buttplate, did you hammer that out?
