Can anyone provide any information on a gunsmith by this name? Any help would be much appreciated.

Bart:
A.M. Carey's "American Firearms Makers" lists Henry Groot as a "General gunsmith at Pittsfield, Ma, 1866-1868. Migrated to Minneapolis, Minn., and active there 1868 to 1871."
Robert Gardner's "Small Arms Makers" dates vary.  He lists Henry Groot in Pittsfield, Ma. 1865-1868, and Minneapolis, Minn. 1869-1871. He also adds that Groot produced "Double and Single Fowling and Duck guns."

American Gunsmiths, by Frank M. Sellers, 1983, (more recent than Carey or Gardner) lists Henry Groot in Pittsfield, Massachusetts, 1849-1868, citing city directories as the source. He subsequently lists him in Minneapolis, Minnesota, again citing city directory listings, from 1869-1872.

Sellers simply says, "shotguns".

I would not know for sure, but there is a pretty good chance, especially during the earlier part of his working period.
