soldering metal on a trigger?
« on: January 01, 2015, 02:02:32 AM »
I may have to add metal to a set trigger to get it to reach the sear of the lock.
What metal should be used to add to the top of the trigger? Will regular mild steel work or does it need to be something that can be hardened?
Thanks!
Scott

My triggers irrespective as to what type they are, always have a hardened insert where the sear bar contacts the trigger bar. I use air hardening tool steel and use hi temp silver solder to attach....an orange color is sufficient to melt the solder and also to heat the tool steel so it hardens. The resultant inset is "glass hard"  so is ground down w. a stone in the Dremel. Then a coarse, soft stone is used to "get close" and a fine India stone finishes the job. Overkill...probably, but the result is worth it....Fred

I gave up on store bought set triggers for the very problem you have described. You can make a custom trigger for your specific gun, which can be superior to a set trigger and have a better appearance without the bulk. You can also make a custom set trigger for you particular build but I feel that this is a waste of time
Just my opinion.

More than likely you have enough wood to simply inlet the triggers deeper. Most of us have trouble taking enough wood off any how overall. BJH
