T. M. A. Hawken set

20+ years ago I decided to build a Hawken rifle.  I had a 15/16" barrel on hand and I think only one company had that size Hawken patent breech available.  So I ordered that set.  When I received it there was something really wrong with the lock.  I don't remember what but I sent it back.  The company sent me another one.  I didn't notice it at first but it was missing the fly.  By the time I contacted them they had gone out of business.  After a while I realized that a Hawken rifle was way beyond my skills.  However I broke the main spring first.

The company was located in Oregon and named T. M. A.  Does anyone remember this outfit and the general quality of their work?  I recently checked locks in TOW and the Goulcher internal parts looked good.  Ordered the main spring and fly & they both fit perfectly.  I didn't know those parts went back that far.  What I am trying to get to is were the TMA products of decent quality and safe to use.  I still am not up to a Hawken build but would like to do a Lehman trade rifle.  If the Hawken set of lock, patent breech and tang are good I would like to sell it or trade for Lehman parts.  I understand that would be done on the "Sell" site.

I know nothing of the company that made those parts.  If you have all the parts that are needed, why not just go ahead and build it?  Yea, there is more metal work compared to a longrifle build, but what you will learn on this build can help on other rifles.  I'm building a hawken rifle now myself, the riveting the rib and soldering the pipes is different then what I'm used to, I find it interesting learning these new facets of building.  I'd just go for it, there's lots of info in "searches" and you can always post questions.

What caliber and barrel size? Describe the stuff you may offer for sell.

I am currently looking for Hawken components to do a build for a veteran of multiple deployments in our recent wars. He suffers from severe PTSD but is coming along with counseling. Very nice guy who writes interesting stories of his war experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan. We've become friends during the last year chatting on the internet, and now the phone, and his dream is to own and hunt with a Hawken style rifle. He is an avid deer hunter. Doesn't make a great deal of money. I'm making the rifle for free, searching for deals on components.
