All barrels show likes and dislikes.  As you know, usually the slower the twist, the more powder they'll burn, but if you're not too picky about ultimate accuracy, the slower twists will usually have a wider range of loads they'll shoot with mediocre accuracy.  I've a 42" GM .45 with 1 in 60" twist as well.  I'd start at 60gr. 3f and go up in 5gr. increments until you get the best accuracy.  I use a .445" ball and a 10 pound Denim patch which runs .0215" under the micrometer's anvils.  I use Le highvalley lube, or spit. My most accurate loads are 70gr. 3F and 80gr. of 2F.  both give the same accuracy and point of impact, and both shoot with identical cleanliness - IE: no-wiping every needed during a day's shooting - whatever the number of rounds.  The fouling does not build up but remains easy to push down each time you load.  Accuracy is better if shot 'dirty' than if cleaned each shot.

I will second that. After lots and lots of testing, mine shoots 80 gr Goex FF with a .451 ball and
.022 Teflon patch. This has shot several 50's  one being at 100 yds. Mine is a Flintlock.
Did have a chance to check veolicy once as 1950 fps.  Very good barrel.

I have used 45's in 1-66 for Douglas and 1-56 for Numrich and found very little difference if any for accurate loads powder wise.  60 -70 grains of 3f sounds about as good as any.  2F could possibly give lower extreme spreads.  70 grains was my 100 yard load.

Both my 36" and 42" .45 GMB's 1 in 60 twist give good results with 65 grains of 3fg Goex.  As said earlier, all barrels have their own likes and dislikes.  It's just a matter of range time finding out what they are.  But that's the fun of it! :)

I've got a GM 60" 45 cal. and shoot 52.5 FFF behind a .445 with a .020 patch using Hoppe's 9+ for lube. First three shots out of the barrel were all touching. As long as the rifle is pointed at the same place the ball just keeps making the hole a little bigger. I'm quite sure the half grain makes no difference in the load, but that was what was half way between 50 and 55; I like the load so there she stays.

I have been shooting a gm 45 cal 1-60 for close to 20 years now.  Accuracy has always started to get good at around 50 grains.  I shoot 60 for target and 80 for hunting whitetails.  Long ago I shot a TC 45 with 1-48 twist and 40gr shot great in that gun.  .445 ball and .018 tiking with many different lubes tried over the years, hoppes 9+ since being on this board.

I used a 1" x 42 GM 45 in a Vincent (but with a patent breech). A friend owns it and tells me it is very unpopular around Cody WY. Has barrel sights, and a lollipop tang sight with a globe front so it can be used for any match with a sight swap.
Like all such things it can sometimes a take a lot of shooting to get the right load.
I would start with 50 grains off FFFG and change things till found what works.
Nobody can tell you what it will be. I personally would use 60 grains of FFFG Swiss, .440/.445 ball and a heavy ticking patch with oil. Sperm whale, Neatsfoot or bear as a patch lube.

Already past Canada, setting in a basement in Anchorage.
Fun travel in the north.
Slick road from Whitecourt to Grand Prairie.
Not bad to about Ft Nelson. Then ice and/or snow packed to Caribou Creek on the Glen Highway where the salt started again. Tiring drive.

At least it was above zero... In Canada anyway.

Hope to have things packed and be out of here in a couple of days then a couple of days in Slana then south again.
Got Daryl's phone.
Canadian customs really liked me at Sweetgrass/Coutts. Put their dog in the truck etc.

They must have known I was in a hurry.... Or it was a slow day.
Maybe I need a newer pickup?

I know a couple of guys whose 42" Green Mt .45 barreled rifles shoot one hole groups at 50 yds with 50 gr fffg.  That target load is a bit weak for deer. My .45 has an old Green R. barrel, not Green Mt, but likes 65 gr fffg for a hunting load [and 50 for a target load].  50 is a good place to start building a load.

I'd hunt deer with my GM .45's target load - because I know where the ball is going - right on the sights - no question & 7-0gr. 3F should get the job done.

Looking forward to that phone call, Dan.
