How thin a web
« on: February 22, 2015, 11:07:53 PM »
Been getting back into building and realizing I can't remember things that used to be second nature.

I always like to have the web as thin as practical and have been known to file a notch in the front lock bold to clear the ramrod. So what is the thinest web dimension to ask for when having the barrel inlet and ramrod hole reamed?

I like 1/8 to 3/16 inch.

That is a good place to start. But if you are trying to get a particular school "look" it may need to be out side that dimension on occasion. The web space on some of  the Lehigh's comes to mind. They need to be 1/8 to look right. A full stock Hawken would look incorrect with a 1/8" web.

When building a Bucks County LR, the web at the breech is 3/32" or slightly less and the web at the muzzle is 5/32". I do the Lancasters nearly the same except 1/8" at the breech.

The rear most bbl  lug pin is a problem w/ the 3/32" web and pictured below is the lug that accepts a 1/16 dia. music wire pin. A #6-32 front lock bolt is used and a groove in the bbl has to be filed in......Fred
