London Percussion Fowler- Nock?
« on: February 26, 2009, 10:57:36 PM »
Anyone on here heard of a London Maker Nock. Back action lock- highly engraved-brass trigger guard- brass butt plate . All other mounts brass- half stock with hardwood under rib- super 1/4 sawn highly figured Sycamore stock- 1/2 inch to 3/4 stripes, actually looks like a Tiger. Red and Black color. Guess 12 gage. Original ramrod, just a stunning Fowler. Several Gold Bands around breech. The Great Pinyone

A famous maker was Nock. London, I think. He made beautiful cased dueling pistols and fine fowlers. Sounds like you have found a dandy of his. Can you bring some photos to see?

Pinyone,
Asking anyone familiar with British gunmakers if they ever heard of Nock is like asking folks on this board if they ever heard of Beck.  The Nocks were a VERY famous family of innovative British gunmakers.  I suspect that your piece was made by Samuel Nock (although other Nocks were at work in the 19th century as well).  Samuel was a nephew of the more famous Henry Nock.  Henry was famous for his pistols, fowlers, his patent breech, his volley gun, and his screwless Flintlock.  He was a great inventor.
