“An under recognized American Fine Art”
Volunteers needed to promote The American “Kentucky” longrifle and its role in American history and culture.
Many have recognized that there is a significant decline in the interest of young Americans and others in American history and its material culture, certainly in the areas of furniture and Kentucky rifles. Most readily recognize the longrifle as a weapon, but few as an art form with all its artistic merit and attribtes or recognize or are aware of the skills , talents and labor of the gunsmith, the gifted artisan. Those ( only a few thousand) who frequent this website, AmericanLongrifles.com, maintain a passion for the Kentucky rifle and its accoutrements both in their original forms ( before ~1898) as well as in their contemporary evolution by skilled artisans of 20th and 21st centuries who carry on its tradition as a highly developed, unique form of American fine art.
We propose, given the Internet as a superlative media for dissemination, to develop a grand website, a “HUB”, displaying and explaining the Kentucky rifle as “fine American art” in all of its majestic beauty and artistic merit with its accoutrements and history equally presented. Its role in American life, culture and history would also be presented. The website would be a dynamic “work in progress”, soliciting and vetting contributions, able to be continually added to and revised.
This website will be a “HUB” as it would also easily link the viewer and student to the many already developed websites devoted to all aspects of this subject as well as it becoming a focal point to initiate, attract and/or revive interest. The site would be free to all.
Request for volunteers: Anyone who has interest in participating in this project is welcome. We particularly need individuals with website skills and subject matter interest and expertise. Donations would also be appreciated to help offset any expenses.
