W. PANNEPACKER
« on: March 09, 2015, 05:40:31 PM »
I rerecently acquired a nice percussion rifle stamped W. PANNEPACKER on the lower oblique flat. Would this be the same family as the W. Pannabecker of Lancaster County,  Pennsylvania?

That might be the barrel maker, signed there as opposed to top flat. Pannebaker, I believe , is a known family name of barrel amkers as well as stokers/smiths. I recently ran across their descedents here in VA and California but was unable to get personalized family info.

Thanks for the information on the Wyomissing Creek gunmakers; it is quite informative ..... the name of Pannabecker was apparently spelled a variety of ways as indicated in both Gardner's "American Gunmakers" and Sellers '"American Gunsmiths". Sellers also states that there is a complete article on the family in KRA 76.
(The spelling that is stamped on the underside of the barrel of my favorite  full stock .40 caliber percussion small game hunting gun, from the 1850-1870 period, is PANNEBAKER.)

Yes, it's the same family. I have to dig up the info but I have it here somewhere.

There are 2 William Pannebeckers, both Gunsmiths. Father and Son, William Sr. 1785- 1872 (brother of Samuel, Daniel, John, & Jesse) and William Jr. 1818-1878.

OLUT,
That article is in the "Selected Articles from the KRA Bulletin (Volume 1-30). It's a very good article with 2 family trees included at the end.
