Advice for 36 cal. range rod
« on: March 02, 2009, 01:05:53 AM »
I have my new rifle ready for a range trip, I want to get a 42" by 1/4" loading and cleaning rod, I have a 5/16" by 44" steel rod that will work but want to get a 1/4" rod, maybe one of them super rods? For my bigger guns I use a hickory loading stick and steel rod for cleaning, I want to simplify things and just use one rod for this gun,  cleaning and loading, any advice on a nice rod that won't damage the bore?  And where I can get one? I have did a little searching and can only come up with the 5/16" super rods. thanks, chuck-ia

Dixie Gun Works carries a 1/4" x 44" fiberglass rod. Hope this helps some. There was an article in Muzzle Blast November 2008 about the damage done by different types of rods. I believe the Bevel Brothers did the article. Pretty enlightening reading. 8)

"RP0704" 1/4" Fiberglass Ramrod $4.00

These 44” rods can be threaded, cut or scraped for attaching ramrod tips, cleaning jags, etc. The material used in these rods is polyester resin reinforced with glass fiber, and is stained walnut brown. Compression strength is 60M psi, tensile strength is 100M psi and flexural strength is 100M psi. These are sold in lots of 2 only.

chuck-ia----- I found another 1/4" x 44" brass ramrod with a T-handle that can be removed for storing the rod under the barrel.  ;D

Chuck, Susie at MBS has 1/4 inch brass range rods in stock, even up to 48" for my  48" barreled Bookout rifle.  It works great.
