Dave is right, of course. A 1/4" rod will fit the thimbles on my .25, but will not fit the hole Mark Wheland drilled in the stock for the hickory rod he fashioned. Some 1/4" rod will not fit the bore of the barrel without lapping the rod a good deal. Some will fit--tightly--out of the box, but leaves almost no room for air. Don't expect 1/4" rod to mic at .250. I'm confident Ed Rayle bored my barrel almost dead nuts .250, not leaving wiggle room for .250 rod, brass or steel. I use 7/32", and can't recall my online source.

Haven't measured my barrel, but of two nominally 1/4" rods I tried, one was mighty snug and the other was a no-go. As they say, your mileage...

Dave Motto built my rifle.  I'm pretty sure he used an Ed Rayl barrel.

Dave told me to use a .25 caliber ball and .015 patching.  I don't though.  I use a .24 caliber ball just because the little tiny rod doesn't inspire confidence in driving down a ball that's even a little hung up!

Accuracy seems to be fine.

I'm going to take Long Ears up on his offer to make me a couple of jags.  I'm getting the measurements that he needs tonight.

For you guys who shoot this caliber...I was talking with a friend of mine tonight.  He asked what I was going to use it for.  I would imagine that it would be fine for anything in the groundhog weight class?  By that I mean groundhogs, coons, opposums and the like.  Squirrel for sure. Probably turkey?

Anyone have real world experience on animals bigger than squirrels?
