New project idea, barrel wanted
« on: April 30, 2015, 09:23:56 PM »
For my next project, I want to make a half stock cap gun, maybe flint, not sure yet.  It would look like a cut down long rifle that was converted from an earlier intact rifle.  I want a half round barrel, tapered, lightweight, 45 caliber, hollow under rib, about 36".  I see some barrels out there but none are the smaller caliber.  Does anyone supply something that is close?  How about the rib?

Thanks,

Scot

Ed Rayl, Charlie Burton both will make a barrel to your custom dimensions. I am sure that there are others but these two I have first hand experience with.

I found Colerain American Fowler, the B-weight in 45 caliber would work great.  Any issues with trimming about 8-inches off the muzzle?

No more than you would have with cutting down an original barrel and that is what you said you wanted to emulate.

If that is a swamped barrel you will probably end up with a straight taper from the Oct/Rnd to the muzzle (after cutting off 8").

Mark DeHaas will make those as well, I made an OTR .45 X 28" rifle just now with one of his bbl.   Nice work on his part & very accurate to boot...1-660-872-6308   or Oregon barrel co.  1-541-741-4118 only out to 35"  any cal. any twist...Tom
