Nabob chair

Well, I finally finished assembling my folding chair. I embellished it a little so it would be fit for just about any nabob. I still have to sand the sharp corners, darken it by fuming it with ammonia, and then finish it.



I took the boards off of the bottom of the seat after I took the picture because I thought it didn't look right.   Then again, I could say that it is a compartment to stow away my laptop.    ;D

I finally got around to staining the chair and got one coat of finish on it today.  I think I'm going to use a tung oil varnish for the final coats.  I couldn't get it dark enough by fuming it with ammonia, probably because it was too cold outside, so I put a very dilute overcoat of LMF Nut Brown stain on it.  I'm very happy with the color and appearance of it.  The flecks look either dark or light depending on how the light is shining on it, much like the effect that AF has on curly maple.  I was hoping for kind of a "Mission Oak" look. 

 Here's a couple of pictures of it.  The first one is just with the fluorescent light in my kitchen, and the second one is with the flash from my camera:

Your chair looks great!  Nice color and the embellishment at the top really sets it off.  Overall, how wide is the chair?

Bioprof.....That's a mighty fine lookin chair. Wouldn't want to leave that settin out in front of the lodge, some old country boy from West Virginia might just sit down on hit and not get up till it thunders. Looks real comfortable..........Frank

Very nice chair!  For future project if you want to fume the oak you must us industrail strength ammonia, household is too weak.
