James Rodgers fowling bag on Contemporary Makers Blog
« on: July 24, 2015, 01:37:36 AM »
I just had to say how delighted I was viewing the photos of the fowling bag on the Contemporary Makers Blog that was made by our very own James Rodgers.  It was exquisite!   It makes me want to do a fancy tooled bag; but, sadly,  that just isn't what I do.    Be that as it may,  that bag was pure eye candy for me.  I just loved all the tooling on the scalloped binding and the treatment on the fold of the front flap.   Of course, you can't overlook the cord work and tooling on the flap.    He gets difficulty points for that one.

James,  I hope you were well paid for that bag.   In my opinion, it was a masterpiece of leather work.

Mark, you took all the good words that described James' outstanding effort and result.  Great job again James!

A humble thanks to you gentlemen! This one got finished in between the high tides of tendinitis and carpal tunnel. The tendinitis was the real kicker!

I know how it goes with working in between the physical ailments.    I had carpel tunnel surgery on both my hands years ago.   That doesn't bother me too much any more.  It is the arthritis in my wrists that is killing me.   It really limits my filing to at most two or three hours at a time; and believe it or not, it is my left wrist (I am right handed) that is the bigger problem.    Like has been said here many times,  getting old is not for sissies.   Fortunately, it does not limit the quality of your work.   I hope the same can be said for me.

Couldn't agree more Mark.  Not my style, but Holy Cow that this is beautiful, well executed work of art.  Nicely done.

This bag is even more impressive in person.  I noted it was in Ken Gahagan's table at Dixons Saturday.

Truly impressive and beautiful work, like everything James does!  Maybe Ken will display it at CLA in a few weeks?  :)

I will have James bags at the CLA show as well. I need to class up my display with them. I also like to display the incredible work of other craftsmen and these pieces certainly apply. He did an outstanding job on them

There are not enough words to adequately describe this bag. I'd need to purchase a new weapon just to display the bag with. Neither of which would ever see the field. ;)
