Why would you need to shoot a blanket? In my experience they can usually be beat into submission with a broom.

HH,

Obviously you haven't been to one of our blanket shoots.  They are a lot of fun and everyone goes home happy.

Here in Ohio just north of you blanket shoots are fun but those rascals (blankets) can surprise you.  If you wound them they will turn on you in a heartbeat.

Details please! Like, how many shooters came out, how many shots do you shoot for the day, what were some of the more interesting prizes? I'm not too far away, but couldn't just fluff off my church responsibilities on short notice. Tell me details, and make me cringe.

There were 26 shooters.  The course of fire was as follows, with a varying number of points on the novelty targets:
5 shots on an NMLRA Big Bull target at 25 yds.
5 shots on an NMLRA Small Bull target at 25 yds.
1 shot at a golf ball on a tee at 10 yds.  Points deduction for hitting the tee.
1 shot at the tee.
1 shot at a playing card set on edge at 10 yds.
As many shots as it takes to cut a 1/2" x 3/4" stake in the ground at 10 yds.  More shots = less points.
1 shot at a 6" x 6" steel diamond at 20 yds.
1 shot at a 6" x 6" steel triangle with a hole in the middle at 20 yds.
1 shot at a steel chicken silhouette at 25 yds.
1 shot at a steel pig silhouette at 50 yds.
1 shot at a steel turkey silhouette at 75 yds.
1 shot at a steel ram silhouette at 100 yds.
1 shot at a steel bear silhouette at 125 yds.

As is usual with a blanket match, each shooter's entry "fee" was a prize worth at least $15.  There were several interesting prizes.  A 5 gallon pail full of salvaged lead pipe, a sack with a dozen miniature bottles of various spirits, a skinning knife and sheath, a nice little priming horn, a leather belt bag, a wooden canteen, several fellows put up a pound of powder.  I know I'm forgetting some.

The shoot is an annual event, usually the first Sunday in August.  Check the Corps website at www.kyclr.com for our remaining 2015 shoots and check back in January next year for our 2016 shoot dates.
