percussion caps. rip off?

Seems to be a big rip off. 8 cents a piece for a cap, 10 cents or so for a whole .22 round. Yes. I realize supply and demand comes into play here, but they are horsing around with us who shoot caps in a rifle  or cap and ball revolver.

Deteriorating currency is the big factor in prices. I get $150 in printing press money for labor on a lock mechanism and in 1957 that was 5 weeks pay after taxes. Loss of confidence in a medium of exchange 
got the world Adolf Hitler and all of his looney tunes.

Just picked up 3 tins of Rem caps, locally for the shoot coming up next week - they were the same price as CCI - list at $9.99 each + Provincial Sales Tax & Federal Sales Tax, of course.

Sure does look like some sort of rip-off.  About 5 or 6 years ago I ordered 1000 CCI #11 caps for around $45, IIRC.  Probably more than that now.  A cap is nowhere near the amount of material or the complexity of a .22LR round.  So why are they just as expensive?

Limited uses and captive market are the reasons for the price gouge.
I have also heard that primers for reloading brass cases are produced on the
same machinery as percussion caps.

I remember when they went to $20 a thousand. Sure was glad at the time I shot mostly flint. The local Academy Sports chain in my area has, for some time, been carrying CCI standards for $4.99 a tin and they had plenty. This day and age it seems to be a good price. I can't get them at Friendship for that.

Just over a dime each - $9.99 + $1.44 taxes= $11.43 per 100 caps. these do not look like the scalloped edged with gold/silver foil Rem Caps I've purchased previously. They appear to be re-branded RWS caps - even to the green priming compound.

Not all that long ago, HazMat fees were $15. I was quoted nearly three times that on my last order, and said no thanks.
A trip to Dixon's is in order.
