Hey all. I have cross-threaded the nipple in my Plains Pistol. The nipple is unharmed, but the threads in the barrel are messed up. Is it possible to remove the top two threads with a drill bit and still have a safe shooting weapon? Any thoughts?
This is why breeches should be harder than the nipple.
Does the nipple even engage the top 2 threads when seated?
Many are rebated and have about a 2 thread gap at the top of the threaded portion.
The threaded portion only needs to be 1/4 long for max strength.
But I also hate blowing out nipples. One reason I shoot flint.
RETAP DO NOT DRILL.
If you cannot be sure of tapping the top 2 threads without damage find someone who can.
