Looked and drooled. Excellent work

A pure Tennessee Mountain rifle is there anything better??? You could see a Tennessee from a distance and still know its a Tennessee.

I also like the Tennessee rifles by Jack DuPrey.

Yup, very nice gun. I have recently been reinspired by mountain rifles since I built that N.Carolina Deep River gun. There's going to be a few more coming out of my shop in the future. I have a couple sets of Ambrose Lawing mounts by the late Myron Carlson set back that I think will be put to use.

Hey Tim

Thanks for the kind words here on the board. Thanks to Jeff, Wattlebuster and Whetrock also for your kind words.

I really enjoyed working on this rifle and learned that Tennessee Mountain Rifles are not so easy of a build. I hope you all enjoy it as I thought it turned out pretty nice. There are a few things I would do different when I build another but as I said I am happy with the way this one turned out.

Crawdad and Mike I appreciate ya'll jumping on the band wagaon, anytime you need a boost feel free!

Just funning. ::)

Ron Borron has plans/drawings for a number of Southern guns... I believe he has a Lawing.

I really like the look of this gun. I like that the patchbox has a small dome to it. I have one from T.O.T.W. for a rifle I'm starting and it's much flatter. I had seen where Mr. Parker had done a couple youtube tutorials on making his patchbox, so I watched those. They were well done and very informative. I had a few questions after watching them, maybe Mr. Parker will be here to answer them, or maybe some of you other veteran gun builders can help:

1. I may have missed it in the video, but I didn't catch the thickness of the steel for making the patchbox. Would 18 gauge be close? I have some of that laying around.

2. What size of piano wire was used for the hinge pin?

3. Does anyone have a sketch or good description of how the catch/release gets installed for the lid on the Bean patchbox?

Thanks for any input.

KC

I used 16 ga steel sheet. This was a little on the heavy side but was all that I had in the shop at the time.

I use hardened piano wire in 1/16 dia., I got this in a roll from Grangers. It probably is a gage size but not sure what that is. ???

I made the release from a concrete cut nail. I forged it out to a nice thin point that I could drive into the stock. The cut nail becomes quite springy as it is drawn out. I reshape the nail head to make the catch, I make a small notch at the end of the box and drive the nail into this notch, the notch allows the nail to move back far enough to release the lid. I hope this makes sense to you.
