Antler tip "powder horn" measure
« on: September 21, 2015, 06:19:36 PM »
Had an hour the other night and made a measure for my rifle.

That is pretty slick.  Like a little mini-powderhorn.  I like it.  How many grains does it hold?

About 60 grains.  I actually have about 2 hours in it now that I think about it.

I really like that Schreck! It is not overly fancy, but visually interesting.

Thanks, I have tried unsuccessfully to dye antler tips with wood dye. I usually just let them age over time. I really like the dye though, so I'll have to give it a try.

Now that I've seen yours, it strikes my funny that this theme has not been used before, to my knowledge.  I like it.

I find it strange that all you guys have been around muzzleloading all these years and this is the first one of these you've seen it just seem kind a logical to me when I made it. I never saw one before but assumed many people would've made them

I've always just made plain powder measures with a hole for a lanyard on one end and then for the amount of grains needed in the other. I never had the imagination or patience to make much else until recently.

No, I won't do that, besides you seen my work, I'd just mess it up. I've had some original thoughts and while at Fort Fred I saw I was being copied, I know what that feels like so I won't do it to a friend, or anyone for that matter. IF I do make one, it gets sent to you as a gift.....

Superb contemporary expression. Like Taylor, it is almost unbelievable that we have never seen this before because it fits so perfectly. Reminds me of Dave's wonderful barrel measure idea.
As far as adopting someone else's ideas, I have always been of the opinion that emulation was a solid indicator of good design and creativity. The caveat though is to give credit for the inspiration. Well done Shreckmeister!

That's because you heated the tip opening the pours. So the dye is in it not on it. Sunlight may fade it some.

Mr. Meister,
Thanks for showing a very novel and thoughtful use for antler tips ;D
However, my squirrel's huntin' outfit has used this idea for many years now...

HEY, wait a minute...Shreckmeister made this horn as well ::) ::)

                           Thanks Rob....Shreck ( NOT Meister )
