open sights for bench rest shooting
« on: September 26, 2015, 12:24:28 AM »
Other than *Friendship cheaters * what other options are there for click adjustable open sights that mount at least 6 inches from breach?
TIA

Most of what comes to my mind are air rifle open adjustable rear sights. Maybe call someone like Pyramid Air or Arizona Airguns. There are others as well.

I have a Redfield International sight mounted mid-way on the barrel of my light bench gun, but it has a open sight screwed into the appeture hole so you can adjust it the same as the peep sight.

I dont have a picture but the sight is clamped as usual to a base that is in turn screwed to the top flat of the barrel. It's an 1&1/8 inch barrel in 52 cal. so there is a little room to work with when drilling and taping sight screws.

Noting click adjustments negates most or all open sights and only opens the door to actual match-type sights. Here is an AJ Parker aperture sight. The Iris would have to be replaced with an "open" sight allowed by the rules.

The adjustment feature of this sight, is 1/4 minute clicks.

The mounting plate is attached to the sight itself on the groove rail - by a quick release lever plus single screw. The top flat wouldhave to be drilled and tapped for the mounting. I have one other aperture sight that has a long arm for mounting/screwing to the side of an action or perhaps side flat of an octagonal barrel. It is a .22 aperture sight - with Mossberg stamped on it. Obviously it is for mounting to the side of a .22 rifle's action. I do not have a picture of that and my current computer does not talk to my camera- yet.

Thanks for taking the time to post the pictures.  This gives me something to work off of.
