Please help
« on: September 28, 2015, 01:06:43 AM »
Recently I happened on a posting in American Longrifles which I believe was by "Runastav". It seemed to pertain to the cusomizing of a "Cabelas Investarms Lyman Hawken". Unfortunately I seem to be unable to find it again. I have looked and looked and looked within the site but cannot find again. At the time I first saw it, I was interested but... recently I  inherited a similar rifle,  Cabelas Investarms Hawken and now I am Very interested but cannot find again.

Please, if you can help on this advise.

Thanks any way gents. As I can't seem to find what I seem to remember  I'll just have to use the rifle as a test ground to customize it it on my own.

I think Capchee has done some of these and posted pictures. This may be what you're thinking of. However, I can't get the search function to find it. Perhaps he'll post a few again for you?
Best regards,
Dale

I used Hawken parts from TOW on mine. the buttplate, nosecap, trigger guard, trigger. I got a new underrib and rivited it on the barrel. I then removed the nosecap, and cast one in wheel weight lead. The trigger took some filing to make it reliable. I then redovetailed the front and rear sight and used TOW parts there.
It looks good, and shoots well.
I then took the stock down to bare, and Tru-Oiled it with many coats.  It came out pretty sharp.
I then browned the assembly. That really change the appearance of it. I got browning from DGW and applied lots of coats. The browning became self healing while I did it and the final finish really came out well.
A good rifle from then on.
From there I did a side plate, some inlays, and it perked up.
The Hawken shop also has cast parts. I have used them and they are good also. They are designed for import Hawkens. Fit well and brown well.

Thanks docone. By pure luck and "happenstance" I found what I was looking for. You'all were right it was not Runastav, but Piotr-cz in 2/26/13 under investarms hawken kit.
I had happened on it previously by pure luckand found it interesting but at the time didn't have the rifle to go with it. This time I have it book marked. With what docone shared a little custom work sounds like fun. I have always been better at reworking than from scratch.
