As has been mentioned, the ramrod groove doesn't need to be straight, or parallel to the bore.  It can be often an advantage for the groove and hole to be bowed or at the least not parallel to the bore.  These practices were typically used on original work.

Mine aren't perfectly parallel to the bore, but it isn't for lack of trying.   I suspect the originals are a little bowed for the same reason.  ;)

You had two good things happen in lieu of having the drill going where you planned.  1. The drill traveled towards the barrel instead of towards the bottom of the stock.  2.
The drill traveled towards the side plate vs the lock, giving you plenty of room for the locks mainspring.  You error's were good errors.  :D

David,  The drill actually travelled towards the bottom of the stock an additional 1/16" inch, producing a 1/4" web at the breech.  At least half of the error is good.
