Little Lehigh
« on: October 15, 2015, 11:41:48 PM »
New one for my grandson.  Sugar Maple blank, Rice .40 x 38" swamped, 3/4" at breech custom squirrel barrel, Goehring guard, Martin buttplate.
Haven't weighed it yet, but I'm guessing around 6 lbs.  Sorry for the poor photos...... don't have access to better backgrounds...... long story.

Very nice, Dane.  The young man has something from "Grandpa" he'll really cherish I imagine.

Very nice rifle for your grandson. My favorite rifle silhouette ah (School). Great wood and color. Carving choose looks very nice. Thanks for sharing. Have a great day. AJ.

Very nicely done, I hope your grandson shoots some great scores and has a lot of fun with that little beauty. I hope he also appreciates his grandpaw's efforts.

Your grandson is a lucky lad! What kind of finish did you use on the wood?

Thanks guys, the boy is kinda spoiled.  Trying to give something he can hand down to his.
Finish is tannic acid bath/ferric nitrate, sealed with Chambers oil finish, then a couple of coats of spar varnish, followed by two more of Chambers Oil.
Nice easy finish.

Dane

Your rifle turned out spectacular Dane!  It is well proportioned and cleanly executed.  Got me to thinking I should start planning my "little" rifle as we are gearing up for our first grandson in January.

Your grandson will appreciate that more and more as he gets older.  You're a solid grandpa.  She's a beauty too.
