Building a Kongsberg M 1825/29 Musket
« on: October 18, 2015, 07:03:13 PM »
Hi All!
From collector friends I have bought barrel, front band, triggerguard and cap.All brasspart very very much overdim. Will use birch for stock. The Norwegian Kongsberg M 1825/29 musket is almost identical copy of the Swedish M 1815 flintlock musket.

Hi All, and thank you TPH!
The ramrod grove for the steel ramrod is deep because the wide brass barrel band. It is functional with a drillbit in a drill to deepen the grove use it in ca 15-20 degree angle and use low speed

A drill bit to route out the ramrod channel? Is that what I'm seeing? That's a interesting trick I've never seen done before. Looks fairly effective.

Runastav,

I SOOO enjoy your posts and watching how you make parts.... and what you make them out of !!!  The way you work reminded me of the last part of the following quote:

“We, the unwilling, led by the unknowing, are doing the impossible for the ungrateful. We have done so much, for so long, with so little, we are now qualified to do anything with nothing.”

― Konstantin Jireček

Two years ago, I sent the following note to you about the sea service pistol you built.....I need to send it to you again......

"Runastav,

You are obviously descended from the great European craftsmen who have been making incredible utilitarian implements, weapons, buildings, and works of art from metal, wood, and stone for twenty centuries before my country even came into being.  I salute you and your wonderful work...and I only wish I could write this to you in Norwegian as well as you can explain your builds in English.

Alle de beste. Nydelig arbeid.  (Jeeezz...I hope the Google translator worked!)"

Dave C
"No man will be a sailor who has contrivance enough to get himself into a jail; for being in a ship is being in a jail, with the chance of being drowned... a man in a jail has more room, better food, and commonly better company."

Hi Runar.

You are amazing.

After this project, are you going to make a 1969 Dodge Charger with only hand tools?  I'd bet you could do it!   :-)

Best wishes,   Marc

A very good thread so far, runastav!
You seem to figure out solutions to all sorts of challenges even before they occur. Little gears constantly ticking in your top making you able to plan ahead and make anything using just about nothing. Just a clever mind and whatever lies around. Absolutely wonderful!
Du må'kje snakka, farr!

Hej Runar:  En lille sporsmal for dig:  How did you attach the new metal to the lock to repair the entry for the frizzen screw?  I assume this lock was case hardened so I wondered how hard it was to add new metal.  Keep it up Runar.  You are a wonder!!

Hi All, and thank you guys!
Curt, here is a photo of a percussion converted lock and the and the screw holes which are plugged with screws. So I drill a small hole in the midle, and use a TORX bits to unscrew it out work just fine(Thank you AJ for the tips) As you say the lockplate is casehardened and the screws are soft but rusty in place so a litle warming is good ;)
I must make the Flint Cock from scrath, start with a steelplate 10mm  and pin weld the with use a Copperplate you see on photo and can build up the sides nice and strong!

I have said it before, you have the blood of Brokk and Sindri in your veins.
When a nation forgets her skill in war, when her religion becomes a mockery, when the whole nation becomes a nation of money-grabbers, then the wild tribes, the barbarians drive in... Who will our invaders be? From whence will they come?
