Double Trigger Troubleshooting
« on: November 30, 2015, 08:04:55 PM »
Anyone have a web resource to learn about double trigger function, set-up, and basic trouble-shooting?

Have a TVM with a "hitch" in the front trigger's travel that's really aggravating, and I see a developing spot of irregular wear (chewed) on the sear arm. I don't have any prior experience with double triggers. My suspicion is the front trigger's plate has a rough spot on it that perhaps can stone smooth, but before go taking it apart and doodling around, want to take the opportunity to better understand how the design works. Found the TOW pdf on double triggers online, but not much else. Any suggestions? Thanks.

That tutorial is a good one on function.    About your specific problem,  you do need to smooth everything out, but look at the bearing surfaces on both the front and rear trigger.   You could have a sharp edge on your rear trigger causing a problem.   There could also be a mismatch in the trigger bar(s) and sear arm hardness that is contributing to the problem.   However, making sure all the bearing surfaces are polished smooth will go a long way to fixing your problem.  That, and a little lubricant on the sear arm and/or trigger bars.   Also make sure that your adjustment screw is properly set and tight.  Use some Locktite if necessary to keep it from backing out.

Good advice, Mark.

It sounds like the rear trigger bar is chewing up your sear. That's the one that really slams the sear bar. On a double set, the front trigger travel is really long if you're using it unset.

The sear bar should have rounded edges, not sharp, where the trigger bars contact it. I have seen the forward edge of cast sears quite sharp. The rear trigger will slap on that sharp corner, possibly chewing up the trigger bar. If it gets rough enough, it could cause the lock to hesitate before tripping.

That's what I needed to understand - thank you very much, everyone. Learned something today. Will have a look this weekend, see what its up to in there.
