"He Is Risen Rifle" in the carving style of J. Lauck
« on: December 15, 2015, 06:24:43 AM »
The carving on this smooth rifle is after the style of Lauck family of gunsmiths from Virginia. This is my first atempt at this style of carving. It is a combination of low relief and incise carvfing that looks really nice if done correctly. I don't think that I did to bad on this but I see places that could be better.

I am calling this rifle the "He Is Risen" rifle. My client wanted Matthew 28:6 on this rifle and an inlay with the "Tomb of Christ" engraved on it so I tried to put it all on this rifle.

I hope you enjoy the pictures of this project.

Thanks for looking. ;D

I like it. Always been fond of that school of gunmaking. Is that a scraper finish? It has a nice wash board effect.

I tend to agree with everyone else. I think it's a beautiful rifle and I love the theme. I would love to be able to carve and engrave like that.

To God be the glory!  This rifle is a beautiful witness to your craft and to our Lord. It is in fact, inspirational. And I would add that the old country boy in me wants to simply say, "It sure is purty!"

Jim, very nice. I like everything about it but the nose cap. I am sure that the customer wanted it that way. Superb workmanship.

Thanks everyone for your kind comments. This rifle was indeed a pleasure to build and I am in hopes that the owner will enjoy it for years to come. This was my first time at hand inletting an octagon to round barrel that was both tapered and flared at the muzzle, I thought it turned out pretty good.

For anyone interested in looking at progress photo's of this build you can see them on my web site www.calvarylongrifles.com under the current projects tab and in the Gene House smooth rifle folder.

Thanks again and a Blessed Christmas to everyone.

Absolutely love the theme. Truly admire how you carried it out in a longrifle canvas.
