Annual ALR Winter Meeting at Ft. Boonesborough - PICTURES
« on: December 29, 2015, 07:12:25 AM »
We are all set for this year, so mark your calendar!

The management at Ft. Boonesborough State Park, Kentucky, has agreed to let us use the Blockhouse again this year for our annual ALR winter get-together.  We will be meeting on Saturday, January 30, from 9am to 4pm, with a break for lunch, probably at Hall's on the River.

All ALR members and anyone that's interested in the study, building, shooting, etc. of long rifles, horns, bags, knives, etc. is welcome.  Please bring works in progress, recently completed pieces, items for sale or trade.  The Fort waives the usual admission fee for us, but we will accept donations to the Ft. Boonesborough Foundation.

In past years we've had from 10 to 15 attendees, but we can accommodate more, and we always have a great time, so please come and join us.  We usually try to have some tutorials lined up, so if anyone has any tips or how-to's they would be willing to pass along, please let me know.

I'd like to get a rough head count, so I can let the Fort know how many tables and chairs we need, so please let me know if you think you will be attending.

I'll be looking forward to seeing y'all again.

-Ron

Hi Bill,

There haven't been any shootings in past years.  We all get along pretty well.  Just kidding.  No shooting matches at this event.

We will have a nice fire in the fireplace and hopefully a lot of interesting things to see and discuss, share ideas, etc.  What really makes this event is the stuff the members bring with them.

We've had some folks from Tennessee in past years, but I know it's a long trip for just a one day thing.  Maybe some of you Volunteers can get up a carpool?  We'd love to have you.

Count me in Ron. Mike probably won't make it this year because he moved way up north where Pletch resides. Joey.

I'm about 2.5 hours away so will try to make this.  Should have a rifle I started at Hershel's almost done to bring by the time this happens.

We have company arriving from out of town but they
Should not arrive until after lunch, So if all goes well,
I should be able to make it for most
of the day. The boss said no big deal if I get
home mid afternoon.

Sounds good Ron.  I'll try to make it this year.  Ive got knee surgery sometime in the near future and a granddaughter due in Feb. but I hope to make it.  I'm working on a Bonewitz so I'll bring it along.

It's good to hear from everyone.  I've received PM's from several others.  Looks like we will have a pretty good turnout.  Lookin' forward to it.

My wife says we don't do enough on weekends so maybe Ft.Boonesborough is an option. We
went to the CLA Show in August and brought a retired art teacher,Sylvia Thompson with us who really enjoyed
the show as did Brenda,my wife of nearly 47 years.
Not that far away and I passed it every time we went to Ralph Marcum's events in McKee.

For those who have locks on order,I have had a severe bronchial infection that I can't seem to shake
and am weaker than a kitten. I plan to restart and get this work out of the way ASAP. I had to supervise
a new roof for our 112 year old house. More time out of the shop but had to be done.

Bob,

Our get together is just a small affair, certainly nothing on the scale of the CLA show, but we have a good time looking at the things the different fellows have been working on and talking longrifles by the fire in the blockhouse.  I hope you get over that infection real soon and can join us.

I thought about coming to that event but now I am under a doctor's care for the most extreme
bronchial infection of my life. Also shop work will be suspended until I can get to feeling almost
human and can get the shop warm enough to work in.
Here's hoping all who attend have a good time and a fair day weatherwise.

Bob,
I'm sorry to hear you are ill.  Hope you feel better real soon.  I was looking forward to meeting you.

I don't want to jinx us by mentioning.... shhhh, the weather, but the forecasted highs for most of the days this week are in the 40's and 55 is predicted for Saturday, and no mention of.... shhhh, snow.  It should be a good day.

I just spoke to Bill at the Fort and we're all set for Saturday.  We have 10 that are planning to attend and 5 or 6 more maybes, so we should have a good turnout.

The weather forecast still looks good, in the high 20's overnight, in the 50's on Saturday, no precipitation expected, so come on!
