At 50 yards, I'd say a string of 4" should get you into the top 4 shooters.

BTW - I'm putting on a chunk match at Rendezvous 2010 next year.  We call it Helfey Creek Rendezvous or merely Hefely Creek, simply because it's held at the Hefley Creek Gun Range. We rent the range form the club for the 10 day rondy, plus a couple days on the front for early arrivals.

Daryl,
Now that you are back from Hefley and "might" have caught your breadth, how many entries did you get for the OTL shoot and do you have the results?

You are right - time to get out the calipers - soon as the visiting in laws return home with their chauffeur, my brother in law.

I had only 6 entries, guys with only 4 returned targets.  I'm hesitating to produce the results until I contact the 2 who didn't return targets to see if they're on the way.  We'll give it a couple more days.

Daryl,
Absolutely, make certain everyone is in the mix. I'm surprised there weren't more entries from all the comments that were posted since last year.

If any of you boys out there want to get real serious about this game, I've got the right toy available. This chunk gun has a 1 1/8"X 54" 40 caliber Howard Kelly barrel, rifled by Richard Crabtree. L&R Hwken flint lock and Myron Carlson hand made triggers and guard. The rifle is stocked in Butternut and has a built in cant block. The rifle was built by Ron Borron and shot by him at Friendship, The York, Allen Coon's and a few others. Ron is a national champ and former record holder. I can't post pictures but can forward them to anyone who might want to.

Yeah - I was disappointed.  Hopefully, the attendence for the Chunk Shoot next year at Rendezvous BC (Helfey) will be considerably higher.  I was told to expect up to 100 shooters.

My sincere thanks to all who registered and to those who shot the match. We had 6 entries alltogether, with 4 returns - big drop from last year's effort, oh well.

Here's the results:
1st place with a string measure of 6.235" - Mark Herman
2nd place with a string measure of 7.630" - Roger Fisher
3rd place with a string measure of 8.92" - Brian Jordan

Note that all averaged less than 1" from centre, with mark just shy of 1/2".

Prizing as follows - $15.00 for 1st, $10.00 for second and $5.00 for third.  I'll get the those envelopes out in the mail this week.

Daryl,
Thanks for putting on the show for the 2nd time, I'm sure everyone who participated appreciates your effort. Hopefully there will be a bigger turnout next year. I personally think everyone who shot is a winner based on the fun and long distance camraderie.

Thank you Daryl for taking the time to organize this shoot. I had fun doing it, and look forward to next years shoot. Hopefully with some more shooters.

I guess 3rd place is not to bad for my first chunk shoot.

Daryl, thanks for putting on the shoot again this year.   It was disappointing on the number of shooters but I enjoyed it as it is a challenge.   Hopefully I'll shoot better October 3rd out in the State of Washinton and get a nice elk.   I shoot much better as a hunter versus a target match.  Thanks again.   ;D

Hey Dave - if you can hunt elk in Wash, you can come to Rendezvous 2010 at Hefley Creek next year, huh? It's just 3 hours north of there.

Here are the 1st place targets, shot by Mark Herman of Ohio.
All 5 registered targets

Best 2-shot target with a string of .542 + .213 = .755" & includes his load data - note 90gr. 3F with a .495" ball.

Everyone,
I have to say thanks to everyone who shot, you put me on the spot this year and made me get out and try again. Between the back surgery in February and the cataract and implant surgery (both eyes) in July I didn't think I would be back on the line for a while yet. I didn't want to miss the ALR chunk shoot, but you fellows gave me the push to get out and give it a go. Thanks again to Daryl for the effort you have made to get it going. I hope next year we get a bigger turnout.

Hi Daryl, really only 3 hours.  I thought it was way up north.  I will have to check into that next year.  That 3 hours north of the Washington / Canadian border as I hunt about 60 miles south of Seattle.
