Finished Project-Albrecht/Marshall
«

This bigbadboy helped get me through a LONG winter! It is my interpretation of an Andreas Albrechts rifle, purportedly built in the 1760s or 70s at Christian Spring, PA. and once owned by legendary Edward Marshall.
This is from a Jim Chambers kit I aquired from Ezra.
Jim C., 40 hrs to build a kit??? I've got well over 100 hrs in this one! I quit counting at 80. She's a 58 cal Rice brrl.
I used AquaFortis + Laurel Mt. & Jim Klien stains to get that color, sealed w/Laurel Mt. Permalyn sealer & finishes, then lovingly rubbed down w/LO & rotten stone. Used a little Super Blue/bleech etching on the steel parts.
I hope someone likes it! I welcome all comments.

Great job! The finish on the wood and metal is wonderful and I really like the looks of the lock engraving. Nice design. Thanks for sharing the pictures.

Great Job!. I really love the color and the finish. Real nice job with the carving. Somethings just have to be complimented on, even though you know you did a great job, ...Geo.

Great job, looks like a very nice gun! I'm scared of using bleech, but you pulled it off well. Only one comment... If the barrel and lock have an aged patina applied, why is the frizzen spring untouched? I've filed, cleaned up, then aged several frizzen springs to match the lock with never a break. Thanks for sharing!

Why are some folks afraid of using bleach? I have never built a gun but am reading up on it, and am taking all of this in.
My first gun will probably be a Chambers Kit, I just can't decide which one, I have it narrowed down to two. The work that you have posted here inspires me, it is very well done and you should be very proud.

Thanks a lot guys!
Eric, interesting comment on the fr. spring. I guess I just figured a hardened steel spring would not age as fast as a softer plate or barrel, therefore no attempt to etch it. But I still could. I'll take another look at it.
And my intent is never to make a rifle look 100 or 250 yrs. old, just seasoned, and to give the steel kind of a look of being worked with fire and hammer. Notice I didn't drag it down the road and bury it in the garden to distress the stock.
I do favor patina over shine, but I know it's not for everyone.

Tom, you've out done yourself! Very well done! I particularly like your metal engraving...lock and barrel. The finish and color really stands out and makes the carving pop out vividly! Very sweet bruiser, what does she weigh?

Joel, between 8 1/2 and 9 lbs on my digital batroom scale. It has Jaeger proportions, you could build a long Jaeger with this kit.

Great looking rifle!!! It looks like it jumped out of a history book. I think the engraving is just right for that gun. Look like it has just enough European influence to be built by an immigrant.
Nice wood color and the metal finish is right on.

Wow! Love the carving and engraving. I need more practice. What did you use to color the stock? Could you describe how you finished the lock and barrel? Thanks and WOW again.

Tom...
Very well done! I really like the color you achieved. I especially like the carving executed behind the cheek piece. Besides being very well done, the design is excellent for the rifle. I might have missed it, but did you do anything else to the barrel after the Clorox treatment? I know some folks are a little intimidated by Clorox or prefer the rust method, but I've always found Clorox to be very effective, as illustrated by your rifle. Again, very well done and thanks much for posting the pics!
