First powder measures
« on: March 17, 2009, 08:29:00 PM »
Had quit working on the current gun project for the day last weekend, but still wasn't ready to leave the shop, so I played around with some old antlers.  Made my first two measures, both will be gifts to friends.  the fish measure is for a boy that answers to the nickname 'Fishbum".  That one was a really old antler and took the stain too eagerly, quite dark.

The fish eating a fish is really neat. I like that. Good work.

I like both, especially the bottom one.  Good job!  I'm glad you mentioned the stain came out dark as the pics appear a pewter color.

It's not too dark at all,  I think they look great.  Make one for me and you can call me any kind of bum you want to! ;D

They look great to me.  Like others, I like the fish eating a fish.  neat idea.  I use drops to make measures and boy your are right.  Some really suck up the stain.  It doesn't bother me.  Some like them dark and some like them light colored.  Great job.

Thanks for the comments!  I'll definitley make some more, not nearly as difficult as I imagined working antler would be.  Hardest part was cutting into my sheds.  Got to get out and look for some more, found a set Monday just dropped, big enough to work with but not big enough to save, just perfect for measures.
