Reeves Goehring, I sure wish....
« on: January 12, 2016, 06:55:12 PM »
I know Mr. Goehring is old school and I certainly understand and respect that but it would sure be nice for us out Westers if he would post his wares on the net or maybe on this forum. The one and only time I went to Dixon's Fair he was there and I was amazed at the quality and amount. I was overwhelmed to say the least. Just a wish for 2016, I hope he is well. Bob

I think he ain't never agonna do that

Personally I respect his attitude.

Various people here, including myself, have photos of some of his wares

He specifically will not put out a price list, as his costs vary depending upon the foundry.

Goehring sells the best. He is a pleasure to deal with  We all live with his personal methods

Here is a photobucket link of his table at one Dixon's...I am sure things have changed, inventory goes up and down, but even so, this may be useful. Photo credit to Eric vonAschwege.

I talked to Reeves via phone yesterday and he said he is really low on castings right now. The foundry he has been using went out of business and the another foundry  he was going to use had a fire, or the other way around, I can't remember. Anyway, he said to check back in the Spring, he hopes by then he'll find another foundry. Wouldn't hurt to check with him anyway as he might still have what you need in stock.

He is a wealth of information about Longrifles, if you let him know you are interested, and really listen to him.

Reaves is a National Treasure.

I have called Reaves a few times needing some steel hammers and he sent samples of all he had and told me the price. I picked out what I needed and sent the rest back with a check for those I kept and shipping.
He didn't know anything about me other than he'd heard my name from someone. I make it a point to stop at his booth at Friendship every time I'm there.

I was at Dixons this past Saturday and they had quite a number of Reves Goering and other castings in stock on the back shelf... if you know what your looking for they will probably send it to you.

I have been trying to call the number on his price sheet for a couple of days. Is this number still good?

I've used Goehring's castings on quite a few builds and once I remembered the nos of   the castings I used, no trouble. But, at the beginning, I either didn't know or forgot {my bad} the casting nos. So, after talking to Reeves he said he would send what he thought I wanted. Well. they were the wrong castings and to make a long story short, had to add the many back and forth shipping costs onto the price of the castings. If some other vendors had what I wanted, I would not have gone through Reeves.

Not to say he's not a nice guy....have talked to him a few time and even paid him a visit and his wealth of knowledge was quite evident,  but doing business w/ him can be trying....especially for beginning gunmakers.  But in the end, for some builds, his castings are the only ones to use.....Fred

He won't answer a call that doesn't show who you are on his caller ID. He doesn't like telemarketers either.

I don't answer those either, I don't blame him.
