?  there are only two pics - a target and a rifle - nothing showing a muzzle?  That rifle should be a dandy for long range.  20 yards is a pistol shot.

Your 8 bore rifle is very similar to my 4 bore original Jacobsen made in Capetown, SA. Mine has a pistol grip as well, a curly walnut half stock, and full octagonal barrel with a military nipple, but uses an Enfield musket lock. From my limited experience, you seem to have captured the Afrikaans’s spirit!

Are those barrel's available or did you have to make that one? Love the rifle!

Here is the perfect candidate for just such a ball.

Phil Schoemaker, Alaskan guide and outfitter "hanging" the hide for drying.

The barrel was made by Joe Williams shop in Springfield, OR.  www.thegunworks.com $450.00 and they'll make them out to 2 bore---if you really need one.
Really neat people to deal with.
I have a brand new Enfield lock thats going on a .451 "Whitworth" copy.
This one has a musket nipple as well, tapered oct BBL 35"  14 lb....Tom

Nifty gun. I'm sure I would be  instantly paralyzed if I shot it....

BTW, I sure am thankful we don't have bears like that in Iowa. ;)

Looking thru the pics in your photo bucket account I am struck by the lock plate engraving. You captured something there. Mist on the veld, timeless tree, proud hunter indifferent to opportunity.

Well done sir.

I think Phil is 6'. That is a good sized bear. I'm thinking my .69 is a mite small of bore.

if that beast was charging me I'd have to question whether a 6 pounder would be enough bore.

I thought it was a 6-poinder minus wheels. Makes my old bones hurt just thinking about shooting it! With that bear around, you certainly would not be at the top of the food chain!

Bears must be getting scarce on the peninsula.  Phil used to throw the little ones back.

Yes - I'm sure it's 10' square - maybe more and not the first one I've seen take up that much space on that wall. Good sized booboo. LOL
