Just finished a new .45 pistol. This is my 2nd flintlock. Quite a learning curve from a rifle. Completed from a blank and straight barrel. I swamped the gm 10" 1:20 barrel by hand filing carefully and its my first stock from a blank. Lots of mistakes but i think it turned out well.

Very nicely done. I also like the muzzle, lots of detailed file work. The trigger is cool too. There's a lot of detail to look at, I like it a lot. What finishes did you use on the stock and on the lock/barrel?

You have done a fantastic job. I just finished a pistol myself, and posted here that it was far more demanding than any of the long guns I've worked on. Your design work and execution are really top notch. I'd love to see some more photos.

Barrel and lock was rust blued with laurel mountain forge 3 times and stock was stained with aqua fortis, then blushed and rubbed back. Then light amber honey stain. 2 coats of tung oil and one of truoil over it. Fire blued most of the screws.

That is a beautiful job on the pistol, fit and finish and engraving all well done. Not complaining or nocking your build just curious, why you used a rifle rear sight on it. In my mind it would be way to tall to use as a pistol sight, it may work just fine as it looks like you may have taken the rear blade down a good bit. Again not knocking your build becasue it is a very nice job.

I've used lots of those sights, even on pistols. They are nice and wide and flat on the top edge, and make sighting more precise than a more rustic sight. The traditional placement for the rear sight is about 1/3 of the way up the barrel from the breech - like a rifle. But I've put them there too, so I get the longest sight radius possible.

Well i made this pistol to go with my rifle and just thought id keep with the same rear sight. Although i did file it smaller to accommodate the smaller size. The sight picture is the same as my rifle. The front sight I have to change/file as need be after i fire it the first time

You did a real nice job on this pistol. What impresses me the most is the workmanship shows that you have pride in your work and strive to acquire perfection. Attitude is the most important thing in a being a high quality craftsman. Looks like you have it.
PS. Rear sights on most English pistols were back on the tang.

I do not know much about guns I cannot lean on but it sure looks like a confident piece of weaponry. One of those pieces you wish you could turn over in your hands. Especially like the muzzle treatment.

I bet that welded steel table made doing the filing and in letting a joy.
