Christian Beck Rifle
« on: January 28, 2016, 06:02:53 PM »
.50 cal.  straight barrel. Something about this gun that really captured my imagination. I couldn't find any measurements for it so I went by what pictures I could find. Not an exact copy, more like he made another one, er, I hope. As always your thoughts, pro, or con are always welcome.

Super cool. I'd be scared to even try that one. Like it a lot. We don't see many Golden Age rifles lately.

A little envious of your talent to produce such a beautiful LR....but you do it all the time and am just amazed.

Your photography skills are excellent, but could you post a closeup of the carving to the rear of the cheek? Many compliments on the "deer", but it's not all that clear ?.....Fred

With desktop PC- hold the Ctrl button down and repeatedly press the + button - that will enlarge the picture. Holding the Ctrl button down and pressing the 0 (zero) button will return your screen to normal size.

I like the later rifles, looks great!  Funny enough I was just looking at pics of this gun in the "Art & Evolution" book this morning and then find this thread this afternoon.  I always loved that deer carving.

You'e done a great job with the carving and engraving here, the piece flows and shows well.  Nice color too, what did you stain with, aqua fortis?

Wow, I never knew I could enlarge a picture like that on a desktop! What's more, I just found out while trying that out, if you press Ctrl and rotate the roller on your mouse (if you have one), it will also zoom in and zoom out!

Not to sidetrack this thread! Beautiful job, Robby! As Rich Pierce and Osprey said, we don't see that many late/Golden Age rifles on this site these days. It's good to see people keep this era alive, and so well!

Yes - that works well, Gregg, however the Ctrl and 0 button are handy to get your screen back to the size you originally set your computer up to produce. The use of the scroll button is used in some on-line games like World of Tanks.
I suppose all 'mice' have scroll buttons these days?  Used to be not so, thus I didn't mention that.

Very nice rifle. I like the curl in the wood, the inlays, the engraving, and the carving.  Can't see anything about this rifle I don't like!

Curtis, the color is from standard aqua-fortis that I added some pure iron filings to. Thank you fellows.

Robby,
You are clearly an up and coming talent in this field.  With this rifle I would say that you have arrived.   I wish you a long and fruitful future in building.  You did a splendid job on this piece.

I have a Mac computer.  To enlarge photos on my keyboard, I press the command button, and the + and to return to normal size, press the zero (0).

Splendid rifle Robby, and a pleasant departure from what we normally build.  I like it!

Beautiful rifle.  Shade of Vogler architecture in that wrist and butt.  Super carving, and I like the color.  Best wishes,   Marc
