L&R lock

Just want to tell everyone about the excellent service I got from L&R. I purchased a lock through TOW and it had a machining problem. TOW said it would be best to call L&R directly, which I did. They asked me to send it to them right away and promised 1 day turn around. I did and they did. New lock fits and works great. I understand that mistakes happen- it is how they are handled that proves the worth of the company.  Good folks that stand behind their product!

Welcome to this site!  It's great that you have had good service from L & R, and that you acknowledge it publicly.  I have made recommendations to them on how they could easily improve their products, complete with images to back it up, but have never received a return message.  I hope they are listening...

Thanks for the update, good to hear good service reports. We (including me) are quick to complain about poor service or products but are not quite so quick to mention when we get good service. Welcome to ALR.

Thanks for all of the welcomes. I've been keeping my eyes open and mouth shut for a year or so , reading and learning from all of you folks who know what you are doing! There is an almost unbelievable amount of great information here and easy to find.

It is great to hear about a company that stands behind it's products.  I recently purchased an L & R myself, and was not very happy with the quality of the build on it, to be honest.  But I am used to fixing these problems myself, and did so.  I will also say, I didn't contact the company to try and get it rectified, so nothing against them there, but it was hard for me to believe it escaped their quality controls.  But that happens in all companies sometimes.

Glad to hear a good report though.  And welcome, Demoman.

L&R also promised me a 1 day turn around on a broken frizzen. I told them it might have been my fault that it broke. He told me to send it back and they would replace it under warrantee. I had it back in less than a week, no charge.

I, too have had excellent service from L&R.  I had a Manton lock that had the bridal extending beyond the margins of the plate at the top.  I thought it had been mis-drilled.  L&R asked me to send the the lock and I had it back within a week--no charge.  An assembler had installed the wrong bridal.

First welcome to ALR. Many people don't realize that a small amount of product is inspected. On average probably less than ten to fifteen percent of a production run. By a qualified inspector. The rest is up to the person making the part or assembling. So when you get a defective part. Always contact the company even if you decide to fix it yourself. Customer feed back is what helps a company . The ones that listen an take pride in there product survive the others usually don't. Spent 38 years with a company as an tool inspector. So have a little experience. Quality means everything.

My only experience with L and R is I had a Jackie Brown smoothbore that had an L and R lock on it when I worked at a living history museum.  We did firing demonstration so I was shooting it multiple times a day 5 months out of the year and rarely had a misfire. 

I have a fowler now with one on it, and I have not tried this; but I think it would fire under water.

I recently sent an old Queen Anne lock back to Bill Cox at L & R and he gave me one-day turnaround.  The sear was the main problem and it was covered under warranty.  I also had them put in one of their forged mainsprings.  How many other locks on the market have forged mainsprings?  There may be others but I don't know of them. 

I don't think there's another lock company that even matches, much less beats their service.  And friendly.....???.....ain't none better.

I've used all the major locks brands over many years (and many that are no longer made) and sooner or later there are problems.  I feel good with L & R locks on my guns.  They have given me and my customers great service all the way around....and the best prices.  What else can you ask for?

Add another satisfied L&R customer to the list.
I had two L&R Locks that I had actually purchased on-line from a private individual who had bought them and never used them.
One was a Queen Anne that I built on the first project that I had done in over 20 years.
It just didn't seem to spark quite as much as I thought it should.
I called L&R and they told me just send it in.  I then mentioned I also had the L&R Classic that I had put a flint in and it seemed a little light.
He told me to send it in also.
I sent them both and they came back in just a week or so.
Both had new main springs installed and one a sear he told me.
Now I have to watch I don't catch my house on fire when I show friends how well the Queen Anne sparks now.
First rate service is hard to beat.

I had a very similar experience with an L&R Durs Egg lock that I purchased on this forum.  Great folks to work with.
